Recently, No.5 Platform in Cangdong Sag, PetroChina Dagang Oilfield's first pilot platform for profitable shale oil development, officially became operational, making it China's first 100,000-ton demo platform for profitable continental shale oil development.

Located in Cangzhou, Hebei Province, the platform comprises nine shale oil wells. After more than three months of trial production, the platform's production capacity has been stabilized at around 280 tons, with an overall annual production capacity of 100,000 tons.

In recent years, Dagang Oilfield has achieved significant breakthroughs in the innovation of shale oil enrichment theory and integrated supporting technologies. Overcoming key technical challenges such as the evaluation and identification of shale oil sweet spots in faulted basins, and fracturing for enhanced oil recovery (EOR), the oilfield has achieved groundbreaking advances in the enrichment theory and evaluation technology of continental shale oil. During the platform construction process, the key technology of CO2 pre-pad energized fracturing for EOR was developed, which enables a carbon sequestration capacity of 13,000 tons while significantly increasing production. The commissioning of the platform will provide a valuable reference for large-scale and profitable development of continental shale oil in China.
